Welcome to Pidley-cum-Fenton
Pidele et Fenton (13th century); Pidel, Puddele,
Pydele, Fenton (14th century), Pidley-cum-Fenton and Pidley and Fenton (Modern)
The villages of Pidley and Fenton lie next to one another on the
road between Ramsey and Somersham and together form the Parish of
Pidley-cum-Fenton. The modern village of Pidley is spread along
Warboys Road from the Church and junction of Fen Road to the
junction of Warboys Road with the Oldhurst to Somersham road,
locally known as the High Street. The village is famous for the
Pidley
Mountain Rescue Team but more about that later. The small
rural hamlet of Fenton, little more than a few houses and a couple
of farms, is further along Warboys Road towards Ramsey.
Pidley-cum-Fenton is one of the parishes of the District of
Huntingdonshire, whose administrative centre is
Huntingdon, the other principle towns being
St Ives
home of the Chapel on the Bridge,
St Neots
the largest town in the County of Cambridgeshire, the Roman town of
Godmanchester and
Ramsey
site of the former Abbey.
